*ART & CULTURE ***

*"Fotografia per la danza" (Wallpaper dance), */is the first festival in 
Trieste entirely dedicated to videodance, a contemporary artistic genre 
originated in dance mixed by video and cinema techniques using new 
technologies. P/hoto exhibit in the Arturo Fittke gallery (behind Piazza 
Unità). Ongoing until 3 July, open every day from 17.00 - 22.00

*At ICTP's Adriatico Guesthouse in Grignano: Photography exhibit by 
Tullio Valente "Windows of the World*". Tullio Valente specializes in 
travel and cultural documentary photography and has worked for several 
major international magazines in Italy, France and Germany. Ongoing 
until 12 July, every day from 10.00 - 19.00.

*The Hydrodynamic Plant in the Porto Vecchio of Trieste *has recently 
been opened to the public and is a Museum. It is a fascinating 1890 
newly restored building, that was powered by water, functioning up to 
1930. Afterwards, water was replaced by electricity and the plant was 
active until 1980.The original machineries are on display. Open on 
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays till July 20th, from 9:30 to 12:30. 
Entrance ticket: Euro 3,00. Groups must book in advance by calling 
040-6732621 (Monday-Thursday, 10:00-12:00 and 14:00-16:00).

Next to the Hydrodynamic Plant, visit Magazzino 26 that is featuring an 
exhibit on *Nereo Rocco. La leggenda del Paron* (Nereo Rocco. The legend 
of the boss). This is all about Trieste's great soccer player Nereo 
Rocco (1912-1979) who became a national soccer star and later on, a 
skilled coach. On display pictures, documents, personal belongings and 
photos of the people he met during his career, another side of the 
history of Italy. The exhibit is on until 31st July.Every Tuesday 
&Thursday, guided tour by his son, Bruno Rocco, from 18.00 - 19.00.

*In MUGGIA:*

*"Artists in Muggia", *a group art show featuring works of around 60 
artists and sculptors. At the Municipal Art gallery "Giuseppe Negresin" 
in Piazza Marconi 1, Muggia. Visiting times Mondays to Saturdays: 10.00 
- 13.00/17.00 - 19.00, Sundays 10.00 - 12.00. Ongoing until 14 July. For

*"From utopia to dissent. Russian socialist realism from 1951-1991" Art 
show with the works of Russian artists of the time *at Ugo Carà's Modern 
Art Museum in Muggia (Via Roma, 9) set up with the assistance of Tatiana 
Vilibakhova of the Museum of St. Petersburg with paintings and 
documents. Ongoing until 13 August, open from Tuesdays to Fridays 17.00 
-19.00/Saturdays 10.00 - 12.00 & 17.00 -19.00/Sundays 10.00 - 12.00. For

*FILM FESTIVAL*

*From Sunday 1st July to* *7 July at 20.00 : MAREMETRAGGIO Film Festival 
*in* * Teatro MIELA (2' walk after the central train station) featuring 
seventy-four short films, the "best of the best" from all over the world 
and a selection of Italian debuttantes, seven days dedicated to the new 
talents of the Italian and international cinema and video art. Films and 
meetings with actors, film directors, special events, workshops, 
cocktails with the protagonists of the Italian and foreign film 
industries. A focus on India with short Indian films and the flavours, 
scents and sounds of India.**

*Last 3 days: CELTIC FESTIVAL, Triskell 2012 - XII Edition: Boschetto 
del Ferdinandeo *(Ferdinandeo's woods), Trieste. A popular International 
Celtic Festival with so much to do and to see for all: celtic music, 
traditional costumes, ancient Celtic magic, photography, clay moulding, 
divination, creativity, ethnic dance workshops, archery & sword 
demonstrations for adults & kids, games, BarBQs and other savoury foods, 
exciting shows  with  fireworks and sound  effects, and Celtic  games 
for everyone. On Friday 29/6 at 20.45 Performance by The Sidh 
(Italy-Valle d'Aosta), talented musicians from different musical genres 
and experiences, modernizing ancient Celtic melodies. On Sat. 30/6 at 
22.15: Performance by the Tannahill Weavers and on Sun. 1/7 at 14.30:

An open air festival , with 10 hours of entertainment on two stages open

Valentino Kanzyani , The Authentics, Paolo , Matt Keyl, Gazzo, and many

*CASTLES & BOTANICAL GARDEN*

*Miramare Castle* - outstandingly beautiful - is really close to the 
ICTP . It was built the second half of the 19th century for the Archduke 
Maximilian of Austria and is really close to the ICTP and is open every 
day from 9.00 to 18.30. Entrance to the surrounding park is free (8.00 - 
19.00). The location, gardens, castle with the lovely decor and 
furnishings, paintings, rooms full of history are not to be missed. The 
entrance ticket to the Castle costs Euro 6. For more info:

*The Castle of Duino is *one of the most attractive castles in Europe 
and is still the official residence of the Torre e Tasso royal family. 
 From its cliff top location it overlooks a small fishing village and is 
surrounded by extensive gardens. Inside, you can see the furnishings, 
pictures, books and mementoes collected over centuries, visit its 
beautiful park and the World War 2 bunker.Visiting time 9:30 -17:30. 
Always closed on Tuesdays. Take bus 51 (the airport bus). To arrange a 
guided tour, call 040.208120. Ticket price for ICTP visitors: euro 5. 
Extra visit of the "Old Castle" and the Dama Bianca rock costs euro 2.

*San Giusto Castle*, built between 1470 and 1630, the castle rises up 
from the hill in the heart of the old city. You can enjoy a full view of 
Trieste, visit the museum, the armoury and the lapidario tergestino. 
Outside the castle walls lies the cathedral built in the 14th century 
and in the surroundings, the remains of the ancient Roman city dating 
back to the first and second century. Take bus nr. 24 from the railway 
station. Ticket: euro 4/each. Visiting times: 9:00 -- 19:00. Check

*Botanical Gardens in via Marchesetti, 2 - Trieste*

Starting from Saturday 30 June and during the weekends of July and 
August: A guided paleontological tour at the botanical gardens in Via 
Marchesetti 2, from 10:00 to 12:00.

Observe the oldest Karst rocks and fossils (approx. 125 millions years 
ago, down to "only" 40 millions years) and "Antonio", the famous 
dinosaur (Tethyshadros insularis) whose entire original fossil skeleton 
is preserved and visible at the Civic Museum of Natural History in 
Trieste (Via Tominz, 4). Take bus 25 from Piazza della Borsa downtown.
