*SPECIAL EVENT IN TRIESTE: RESEARCHERS' NIGHT ON FRIDAY 24 SEPTEMBER

*There will be many activities, experiments and presentations to be seen
in the gazebos set up in Piazza Unità. There will also be tours and some
of them require advance booking for participation. Information and
details on the website. Street science, coordinated by S. Scandolo, will
take place in 2 locations from 17:00 -23:00: One outside the local
Chamber of Commerce next to Piazza della Borsa, and one in Piazza Unità.
Scientists belonging to several scientific institutions will hold Round
Table talks in the Chamber of Commerce. ICTP's round table is at 18:00
on "Energy and climate changes" by F. Giorgi, R. Gebauer, and R.Rosei.
In Piazza Unita' each participating institution will have a stand. In
addition, there is a common stand where there are changing presentations
and interventions. In this stand, Prof. Andrey Varlamov, invited by
ICTP, will talk about "Physics and golf" at 5 pm and "Physics in the
kitchen" at 7 pm. Concerts: Mainly through J. Niemela, who has also
organized the concerts in Piazza Unità from 18:00 to 23:00. The 5 bands
are: Trio TAV Contizanetti-Centonze-Vladilo; UnderScore; Gino d'Eliso
and the Fabulous Rocker Boys; Stefano Franco and the Fluid Horns; Franco
Valussi, Joe Niemela and the Swingers.

VERDI SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONCERT SEASON 2010 - 2011: Brahms
(Schiksaalslied) and Beethoven, directed by Pinchas Steinberg, with
pianist Lars Vogt on Fri 24 and Sat 25 Sept. *There is a 50% reduction
on tickets purchased "last minute" (one hour before the show) for all
performances directly at the Verdi's ticket office. You may also send an
SMS to: 340 4350395 and join the Verdi's mailing list info for last
minute seats availability. Only for the Sat afternoon performances young

*Trieste Piano Festival (IX edition) at the Sala del Ridotto del Verdi
*(Verdi Theatre) on Thurs 23 Sept at 20:30: Argentinean pianist nelson

International Choir Festival of Europe 2010* in Muggia in the Dome
(Piazza Marconi, Muggia's main square) on Fri 24 Sept at 20:45 with the
Baita Choir from Letonia and the Italian Choir "Claudio Monteverdi".

Chamber Music at the Auditorium of the United World College: A concert
by the Orchestra Giovanile (Juvenile Orchestra) with musicians aged 6 -
16, directed by Domenico Mason on Sun 26 Sept at 11:00* organized by the
Scuola Superiore Internazionale di Musica da Camera Trio di Trieste.
Free entrance. Following the concert, an aperitif will be offered to
everyone. Bus 51 to Duino.

Two concerts at the Miramare Castle: on Sat 25 at 20:30 *with the
Tartini Flute Choir directed by Giorgio Blasco with music by Haendel,
Therpnin, Mozart and Dopplet. Two brilliant musicians from the Glasbena
Matica Orchestra will play on *Sun 26 Sept* at 20:30: Tanja Cibiz, solo
guitar (music by Ponce, Giuliani, Villa-Lobos) followed by a Harp
concert with Tadeja Kralj. Music by Ibert, Dussek, Hasselmans. The
concerts are free and held in the Throne Room, but you must pay the
entrance ticket to the Castle for the evening: euro 4/head.* *Places

ART EXHIBITION*
*Inauguration of the International Youth Exhibition "Artefatto 2010 -
Candy World" ongoing until 3 October. *The exhibition involves 140
Italian and International artists aged 17 - 35 and will take place in

Mirò, "Il Poeta del Colore" *(the poet of colours) ongoing until 7
November at the Scuderie di Miramare (ex-horse stables of the Miramare
Castle close to the main entrance gate). The exhibition is a collection
of Mirò's art prints, lithographs, watercolours combined with poetic
verses by the artist himself. Open from Tues - Sun 10:00 - 18:30.

Piazza Europa, International European Fair in Trieste from Fri 24 to Sun
26 Sept* with kiosks and stands offering all sorts of goods, food
specialties. There will be live performances with street artists and
musicians. The locations are mainly in Piazza Ponterosso, Piazza della
Borsa and Corso Italia, daily from 11:00 - 23:00 (all walking distance
from Train Station and/or Piazza Unità).

"Festa dell Acqua" (Water Festival) in Bagnoli della Rosandra *on Sat 25
and Sun 26 Sept close to the Cultural Centre of Bagnoli and the Preseren
Theatre. There will be a series of conferences, poetry reading and live
music with local bands. Two excursions of the Rosandra Valley on Sunday.

*Carsiana Botanical Gardens *on Sun 26 Sept at 16:00 and 17:00 in
Italian on the importance of wild plants in the Carso and the necessity
of safeguarding Man's natural environment. The Carsiana Botanic Garden
is situated in Sgonico in the Carso. Opening times during the week: Tues
- Friday only in the mornings 10:00 - 13:00 and on Sat and Sun +
