*WHAT'S ON THIS WEEK                                8 - 11 OCTOBER 2009*

*
SPECIAL EVENT:  "LA BARCOLANA" SAILING REGATA *The Barcolana is one of 
the most famous sailing regattas in the Mediterranean Sea. It will take 
place for the 41st time in the Gulf of Trieste on Sunday 11 October at 
10:00 with over 1500 boats taking part in the race. It is really a 
unique sight to watch either from the sea front near Barcola (bus 6 or 
36) or from a higher vantage point such as the "Napoleonica' path 
overlooking town (bus 2 or the tram) or from Strada del Friuli near the 
Victory Light House (Faro della Vittora) reachable by bus 42 or 44 from 
Piazza Oberdan.There will be side events all week, live music concerts 
in Piaza Unità especially on Saturday night, "Barcola Carta" (in front 
of the Stazione Marittima in the area " Arena Barcolana" with book 
presentations and meetings with famous writers such as the Swedish 
author Bjorn Larsson who will present his latest work on Friday 9 Oct at 
17:30), there will also be  kiosks and stands on the "Rive', the sea 
promenade in front of Piazza Unità, offering different sailing products,

MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT***

*Symphony Music Season at the Verdi Theatre of Trieste: **Thursday 8 Oct 
at 20:30: Concert "Crossover"2009, Rag Blues (music by Milhaud, 
Stravinsky, Pieranunzi, Perlman, Brubeck. Fri 9 Oct at 20:30 and Sat 10 
Oct at 18:00, Symphony music concert, Mozart and Bruckner, directed by 
Julian Kovatchev. *For the Saturday performances only, there is a 50% 
reduction on tickets purchased "last minute" (one hour before the show) 
directly at the Verdi's ticket office. For more info on program and

"Musical mornings at the Revoltella Museum" every Sunday from October to 
March in the Auditorium at 11:00. Entrance ticket to the Museum + 
 concert + refreshments is only euro 6,00.* Please purchase your ticket 
half an hour before the concert in order to find a seat as it is on a 
first-come first-served basis. Refreshments and drinks will be offered 
to the audience and to the musicians after the show! Via Diaz 27, bus 8 
or 30 from Train Station, bus 9 or 10 from Piazza Goldoni.

*Organ Itineraries*: A series of concerts performed in churches during 
the autumn season.  On Sunday 11 Oct in the Chiesa Nostra Signora di 
Sion in via don Minzoni nr. 7, there will be a concert for organ and 
flute with the female choir of the Cappella Civica, the music is 
inspired by Islamic Sufi music, texts by Paolo Magris. For more info

"*Aperitivo in Musica - Musical Aperitif"* at the Auditorium of the 
United World College in Duino every Sunday of  October at 11:00 with 
young talented musicians performing as solists or as an ensemble. The 
concerts are free. Following the concert, refresments will be served.

*There are two free-guided tours, on Saturday 10 Oct in the morning, 
organized by the Travel Agency Pansepol in collaboration with the

1. " Fotografare i borghi, la citta' e i suoi edifici" is for photo 
lovers! a free guided photographic tour of the city and it's 
surroundings accompanied by a guide and a professional photographer. 
There will be refreshments offered as well.

2. A walk on the Naoleonica path overlooking Trieste and a visit to the 
Casa Carsica in Monrupino (a typical Carsic house now a museum showing 
the local culture and traditions of the Carso). Refreshments will be 
offered in a local farm (local wines, hams and cheeses).

*The Carsiana Botanical Garden* in Sgonico has two guided tours on 
Sunday 11 Oct at 15:00 and 16:00 with a special focus on "local plants 
and herbs used in cooking". Entrance fee euro 3,00. Bus 46 from Piazza

on 18 Oct.

 

*Self-organized tour of Trieste's main sites with an audio guide,* 
everyday from 9:00 - 18:00 (Sundays and holidays: 9:00 - 13:00). You may 
stroll around the city's main historical sites with 22 stops from Piazza 
Unità to the "Arco di Riccardo" from the San Giusto hillside to the 
Verdi Theatre. Cost euro 4,00 /pers and 7,00 for two persons. Language

EXHIBITIONS*

* H2O Multimediart - with* two exhibitions at la Sala Congressi di Porto 
San Rocco open daily until 18 Oct. Fabio Fonda's digital art exhibition 
"Mimosa Impudica" and Enzo Pituello's paintings and sculptures.

Solo photography exhibition "Le Vele di Franco Pace" *by Franco Pace at 
Salone degli Incanti, Riva Nazario Sauro, 1. There are many beautiful, 
blown up sailing photographs of one of the most famous photographers of 
the kind with outstanding views. Open until 18 October, 10:00 - 21:00.  
Free admittance.

MISCELLANEOUS*

*Invitation to an event dedicated to the culture and traditions of the 
Armenian people " Sogno d'Armenia" (Dream of Armenia) on Friday 16 Oct 
at 17:00 at the Civico Museo Sartorio in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII in 
Trieste. *Bus 30 or 10. On this occasion there will be a film projection 
on the history of the Armenians in Trieste during the 1700s to 1900s, a 
music concert, a book presentation "La cucina d'Armenia" and 
refreshments served in the gardens of the Villa Sartorio Mueum with 
typical Armenian sweets, wine and mint tea accompanied by traditional 
Armenian music. Free entrance on a first-come first-served basis.

On the occasion of the international year for Astronomy*, *the 
Wunderkammer association* has organized a number of concerts held in 
different places in and outside Trieste. Those taking place at the 
Civico Museo Sartorio, the San Giusto Castle and the Chiesa della Beata 
Vergine del Rosario will be free. Concerts at the Sala Bartoli (in the 
Rossetti Theatre) will cost euro 10,00.  On *Monday 12 Oct at 20:30 at 
the Sala Bartoli (Rossetti Theatre):* "Distillatevi o Cieli", the Jana 
Ensemble with Lia Serafini, soprano and music by Grandi, Haendle, 
Trabaci, Antonio de Cabezon, Monteverdi. Next concert Sat 24 Oct. For

The British Film Club* is offering another season of nine films with the 
original sound track to be shown at the Ariston cinema, Viale Romolo 
Gessi 14 (buses 8, 9 and 15). Membership is necessary and can be 
obtained at the Ufficio Centrale Viaggi in Piazza Unità 6 from Monday 12 
to Fri 30 Oct (10:00 - 12:00 / 16:00 - 18:00) for a total of euro 25,00.
