MUSEUMS The following website gives details of all museums in Trieste

EXHIBITIONS: Multimedia exhibition at the Immaginario Scientifico in
Grignano entitled "Tempi e Stratempi" exploring meteorological phenomena
is open until 14 June every Sunday from 10-20. More info on

Until 7 June in the Sala Comunale d'arte in Piazza Unita', there will be
an exhibition of 30 works by the local artist Gabry Benci. Open daily
10-13 and 17-20. Free entrance.
Photographic exhibition at the Caffe Stella Polare (via Dante Alighieri,
near the Canale di Ponterosso), about marine life in the Triestine Gulf
by the Croatian Igor Sillani. Open until 16 June.
Exhibition by the British artist Peter Davey in the Galleria Rettori
Tribbio 2 (Piazza Vecchia 6) entitled "Spazi nell'anima- Spaces in the
Soul". Open until 5 June Mon-Sat 10-12.30 and 17-19.30, Sundays and
public holidays 11-12.30. Closed Mondays.
Exhibition in the Sala Rosa dei Venti at Miramare Castle entitled “Uno
sguardo su Venezia, Canaletto a Miramare”. Open daily until 2 August

Exhibition at Le Serre di Villa Revoltella (via Marchesetti 37) 'Tra
Sielo e Mar' by Roberto Cardone open until 31 May, Saturday and Sunday
10:30-12:30 and 15:30-18:30.
To mark “Darwin Day”, the bicentenary of the birth of Charles Darwin,
Trieste’s Aquarium (molo Pescheria, 2 on the waterfront) has prepared a
special exhibition of “Nature anomale” (nature’s anomalies). Open daily
from 9-13. Closed Mondays. Entrance costs 4.50 euro for adults and 3
euro for children over the age of 5 and young people up to the age of
20. The ticket is also valid for entrance to the rest of the aquarium’s
exhibits.
If you feel like a trip away from Trieste, the local town of Gorizia is
easy to reach by train and has much to offer. Apart from many wine bars,
places to eat and shops, there are a variety of museums a cathedral and
a castle. The following website gives you more

exhibition of costumes designed for Oscar-nominated films (L'Atelier
degli Oscar), which can be seen at Palazzo Attems Petzenstein until 6
September from 9-19 daily except Monday. The museums in Borgo Castello
are open Tues-Sun from 9-19 and offer a temporary exhibition until 31
May of works by the artist Tino Piazza, as well as permanent exhibitions
dedicated to the First World War (with a lifelike trench scenario) and
fashion and local textile production. You can check train timetables on
www.trenitalia.it (also in English). If you prefer to go by bus, take
APT Bus 51 from Trieste to Monfalcone (half an hour) and APT bus 8 to
Gorizia (half an hour). Town guides are availabe at the Info Point.
Another nice place to visit in the nearby region is Cormons, which is
easily reached by train directly from Trieste. You can find out more

Until 24 May, the Jazz and Wine of Peace Collio festival is taking place
there, with concerts and tastings of the wines for which the surrounding

Friday 22 and Saturday 23 May, free entrance until 23:00 to the summer
musical events at the Ausonia (Riva Traiana), which are being organized
by Etnoblog. Doors open 22:00.
Music Festival for Children 15-30 May at the Casa della Musica (via
Capitelli 3). On Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 May at there will be musical
activities for children of various ages. Check out the schedules and

to the original language for some films; please ask before buying your
ticket.
TOURS IN TRIESTE AND SURROUNDINGS: Guided Tour on foot of Trieste’s
historical monuments (in Italian and English) at 10:00 each Saturday and
Sunday.
The tour lasts 2 hours and costs Euro 5,00 (children under 12 go free).

The Carsiana Botanical Garden in Sgonico is now open for the summer
season. Opening times will be from Tuesday-Friday 10-13, Saturday,
Sunday and holidays 10-13 and 15-19. Closed Mondays. Entrance costs 3

You can get to the Carsiana by bus: take the 42 from Piazza Oberdan up
to Prosecco, and then the 46 to Sgonico. This Sunday, 24 May, there will
be guided tours on "I fiori del Carso in Primavera" (Springtime flowers
in Carso). At 15:00, the tour will be in Slovenian, followed by two
tours in Italian at 16:00 and 17:00.
Grotta Gigante – Giant Cave: The cave is considered the largest tourist
cave in the world. It is situated on the Triestine Karst (Carso), about
half an hour from the city centre. Visits to the cave itself take place
every hour from 10-18. Take bus 42 from Piazza Oberdan and get off at
Borgo Grotta Sgonico. It takes 5 mins on foot, following the signs, to
reach the cave. Entrance costs Euro 8.50 per person, and Euro 4.50 for a

Faro della Vittoria (Victory Lighthouse) built by the famous Triestine
architect Berlam. It is a commemorative monument dedicated to the fallen
of the First World War.
Visiting time everyday at 15:00 - 19:00 (except Wednesday). Bus 42 or 44
from the Railway Station in Trieste.
Hiking in Val Rosandra
The Val Rosandra Valley encloses a remarkable natural environment and a
walk through its paths, and by the stream and natural ponds, surrounded
by typical Carsic vegetation is well worth it, especially before it gets
too hot this summer. Make sure you have comfortable walking shoes on.
Walk along colour-marked footpaths, each marked by CAI (Italian Alpine
Club), ranging from very easy paths to others that require some ability.
There are easily accessible caves for speleology and archaeology lovers.
You can reach the Valley by taking bus 40 from the Central Train Station
in Trieste and get off in Bagnoli della Rosandra.The excursion may last

Muggia
The boat linking Trieste with Muggia, a charming Istro-Venetian fishing
village, runs all year. You get a great view of Trieste from the sea.
Catch the boat from Molo Pescheria on the seafront in the centre of
Trieste, near Piazza Unita’. Check schedules on www.triestetrasporti.it,
under ‘servizi marittimi’. A return ticket costs Euro 6.35. If you
prefer to go by road, bus 20 from the railway station takes you all the
way to the centre of Muggia. You can get information on Muggia here:

CASTLES
Miramare Castle is very close to the ICTP and is open every day from
9:00 to 19:00. The last time for entrance to tour the castle is at
18:30. Entrance ticket to the Castle costs Euro 4.00 (Euro 2.00 up to 25
years). The park surrounding the castle is open from 8:00-19:00. For

Duino Castle is considered one of the most attractive castles in Europe
and is still the official residence of the Torre e Tasso royal family.
From its cliff-top location it overlooks the small fishing village of
Duino, and it is surrounded by extensive gardens. Inside you can see the
furnishings, pictures, books and mementoes collected over centuries. In
the grounds you can visit a World War 2 bunker. New exhibition
“L’Imperatore a Duino”, of more than 300 items about Emperor Franz Josef
is on display until 8 November 2009. Take bus nr. 51 (the airport bus)
or bus 44 (city bus 44 from Piazza Oberdan) to the centre of Duino,
right outside the castle. Opening times of the castle are daily from
9:30-17:30. Closed Tuesday. Entrance ticket to the castle Euro 4.50 for
ICTP badge holders. Children up to 6 do not pay, from 7-16 years Euro

San Giusto Castle, take bus nr. 24 from the railway station. Built
between 1470 and 1630, the castle rises up from the hill in the heart of
the old city. You can enjoy a full view of Trieste, visit the museum,
the armoury and the lapidario tergestino. Outside the castle walls lies
the cathedral built in the 14th century and in the surroundings, the
remains of the ancient Roman city dating back to the first and second
