Security Measures governing admission to ICTP buildings
from 2 March 2009
Following the security and safety audit of ICTP done by the Head of the
Security UNESCO and FAO, various measures have been taken. The last of
the major recommendations remaining to be implemented is an improved
access control system. Proximity badges were put to use by the
administrative staff for some time now; all group visitors have had
these badges as well.
>From next Monday, March 2nd, we are ready to distribute the badges to
all visitors of the Centre and activate the electronic locks and badge
readers of various doors to ICTP buildings.
This note sets out the main information about the distribution and use
of the badges. Any questions should be made to ACS - Access Control
System, located in Fermi bldg. in the mail office (person in charge for
badge issues is Ms. Tiziana Derni (ext. 589, e-mail: access at ictp.it
<mailto:access at ictp.it>). Others responsible are Mr. Alessandro Bulzani
(ext. 518) and Mr. Erich Jost.
In short, persons having business in any of the ICTP buildings will have
a badge and will have access to the buildings more easily than before
(also outside working hours).
The proximity badges are re-assignable and for this purpose must be
returned to ACS. To facilitate the return, 'Badge collection boxes' are
located at the receptions of the Guesthouses, the Info-Point, the
guards' desk in the Leonardo building, the main entrance and the
entrance at the Terrace level of the Fermi bldg., as well as in the
multidisciplinary laboratory. In addition, the badges may be left with
the mail office counters during their opening hours.
People without a badge will always have contact possibilities by using
one of the entrances to the building that are open during the hours as
set out below, or by approaching the guards outside these hours. It is
not allowed for anyone with a badge to lend it to others or to let other
persons into the ICTP buildings.
Secretaries have received special guidelines regarding the routines for
badges for visitors. New staff will receive their badges from the
Personnel Office when taking up duties.
Staff members, visitors and other authorized persons will be admitted to
ICTP buildings as follows:
_Leonardo building:_
Free access from the main entrance and from the SISSA tunnel (open
doors) from 8:00 to 18:00.
Outside working hours, on Saturdays and Sundays and during official
holidays, access only through use of badges or by contacting the guard.
Other entrances:
Entrance at anytime through the use of badge.
_
Fermi Building_
Main entrance (sea-facing terrace area):
Open from 8:00 to 17:30.
Outside working hours, on Saturdays and Sundays and during official
holidays, access only through the use of badge.
Other entrances:
Doors closed, access anytime by authorized persons through the use of badge.
_Adriatico Guesthouse_
Main entrance: door open from 06:30 to 24:00
The access through the lower lever entrance, from the parking area, only
through the use of badge.
_Galileo Guesthouse_
Main entrance: door open from 06:30 to 24:00
Outside working hours, access only through the use of badge.
Access to the parking area through the use of badge.
_Microprocessor Laboratory_
Main entrance: door open from 8:00 to 18:00.
Outside working hours, on Saturdays and Sundays and during the official
holidays, access only through the use of badge.
Not all doors, such as emergency exit doors, are equipped with a badge
reader. Such doors are equipped with a sound alarm and signaling to the
guards, to prevent that they are 'forgotten in open position'; they
should not be used for exiting the building. Such doors have a sign on
them telling that the door is alarmed. Should there be an occasional
need to open and an alarmed door, please contact ACS or the guard.**
The above sets out the guidelines from 2 March 2009. As we gain
experience with the system and the use of the badges, revisions will
be done as needed.
Thank you for your understanding and collaboration.
