Below is a brief list of some other exhibitions going on locally.
New exhibition at the Civico Museo Sartorio (Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII)
entitled Valleys of Memory - Ancient People Sites and Images from Swat.
The subject is 50 years of the Italian Archaeological Mission in
Pakistan. Open until 29 April 2007, from Tues-Sun from 9-19.
New exhibition at the Caffe Stella Polare (via Dante Alighieri, 14,
near the Ponterosso Canal) of works by the artist Bruna Daus. Until 19
April.
Duino Castle

Duino castle is without doubt among one of the most attractive castles
in Europe and is still the official residence of the Torre e Tasso
royal family. It was recently opened up to the public for the first
time. From its cliff top location it overlooks a small fishing village
and is surrounded by extensive gardens. Inside, you can see the
furnishings, pictures, books and mementoes collected over centuries.
Opening times: 09:30 to 17:30. Closed Tuesday.

You can reach Duino easily by the blue APT bus 51 (the airport bus), or
the number 44 orange bus from Piazza Oberdan. Once there you can also
take in some of the breathtaking views from the Rilke cliff top
pathway, and take a walk down to the pretty harbour.
A new exhibition (I sentieri della psiche nella scrittura) displays
manuscripts by the German poet Rilke, with an analysis of his
handwriting. There will also be a collection of antique pens on loan
from the Parker and Waterman Museum. Open until 17 May 2007.
New exhibition in the Sala Leonardo (Palazzo Gopcevich, via Rossini,
4), entitled Lo sguardo sul Mare. A collection of prints of Trieste
and the sea. Daily until 9 April 2007 from 9-19. Free entrance.
Until 15 April 2007 at the Museo postale e telegrafico della
Mitteleuropa (piazza V. Veneto), there is an interesting exhibition
which details the history of the postal service in the area, with
collections from Italy, Austria and Germany. Monday-Saturday 9-13.
Sunday 10-12. Book a guided tour on 040-6764294.
In the Biblioteca Statale (Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII, 6) there is an
exhibition of the works of local artist Rossanna Longo. Open until 31
March, Mon-Fri 9-18, Sat 9-13, Sun closed. Free entrance.
C H I L D R E N's A C T I V I T I E S
L'Immaginario Scientifico
This science museum (located on the ground floor level of the Adriatico
Hotel, entrance at the rear of the hotel, opposite the 36 bus stop) has
exhibits which are particularly suitable for children.
A children's laboratory will be held on Sunday from 15.45-16.45 for
those aged 4-7 and from 15:30-17:00 for 8-11 year olds. This week the
younger group will be working with liquids and the older ones will make
a rain pipe. You can book by e-mail at

I trenini della domenica
Monthly appointment with the Club Triestino Fermodellisti
Mitteleuropa-Ferclub in Via dei Giardini, 16 in Servola. Sunday 1
April 2007 from 10-13 and 15-18. Model trains on display. Free
entrance.
F A I R S & M A R K E T S
Antiquari a Trieste
On Saturday 31 March and Sunday 1 April, from 10-20 in the former
Pescheria Centrale building on Trieste's waterfront, there is the
ongoing big antiques fair "Antiquari a Trieste". There is also an
exhibition on Caravaggio's work David and Goliath in an adjoining part
of the building.
Flea Market
On Sunday 1 April at the Giulia shopping centre (via Giulia 75/3) from
9-19:30, there will be a flea market with stalls offering all kinds of
antiques.
Vino in Piazza
On Sunday 1 April in the square of Villaggio del Pescatore (the village
on the sea after Duino), from 15 there will be a wine-tasting event,
with over 40 different types of wine from all over Italy. From 16
onwards there will be live music, with a concert by Lorenzo Pilat at
17.
M U S I C & C O N C E R T S
Casa della Musica
On Saturday 31 March (from 10-12.30) and Sunday 1 April (from 10-12 and
16-18) at the Casa della Musica in via Capitelli 3 in Trieste, there
will be the chance for children from 1-6 years to listen to music, make
music themselves and meet other children at the "Botteghe dei Suoni e

Free Live Music at 21:00 at the Corsia Stadion - via Battisti - Friday
and Saturday.
Bar Crispi (via Crispi 18) - on Friday at 21 (Andrea Massari-Roberto
Magris Jazz Quartet)
Weekend al Verdi
On Sunday 1 April at 11, in the Sala Victor de Sabata at the Teatro
Verdi, the brass section of the Orchestra of the Teatro Verdi will play
a selection of film music, including pieces by Bacharach, Mancini and
music from Star Wars and Disney films. Tickets cost 7 euro (5 euro
reduced price for young people) and can be booked by calling

S P O R T
Swimming
Trieste offers several possibilities for swimmers. More information, in
English, on all the local swimming facilities (including the pools also
in Altura, Monfalcone and nearby Slovenia) can be found on the

Remember to take a swimming cap with you, as it is obligatory in all
structures!
The nearby seaside resort of Grado is nice to visit, with its
historical centre, basilica and roman remains. You can read about the
town (in English) on the site: http://www.gravo.com/estor.html. Grado
also has a great indoor spa pool (more information in Italian on the
site: http://www.gradoit.it/home_turista.html).
If you don't have a car, the best way to get to Grado is by bus. The
APT number 21 bus goes direct to Grado leaving the bus station in
Trieste at 7.50 on weekdays and Saturdays and 8.00 on Sundays (it
reaches Grignano bus stop about 5-10 minutes later). The return from
Grado bus station is 14.15 Monday-Saturday and 18.50 on Sundays.
T O U R S
Trieste on Foot
Every Saturday and Sunday, there are guided walking tours (in Italian
and English) of Trieste, starting at 15:00. Book your place at the
Tourist Bureau (TURISMO FVG Trieste) in Piazza Unita). Tel.

Trieste by Bus
Every Saturday a bus leaves for a tour of Trieste from in front of the
train station at 14.00. It takes in all of the main sights to see
downtown, and there is also a 30-minute stop at St. Giusto Castle,
where you can walk along the Castle walls or visit the Cathedral or
simply enjoy the spectacular views. Tickets may be bought in the Sala
Eurostar in the main railway station and cost 5.20 Euro, with children
under 10 travelling free.
Trieste by Boat
You can travel from the Molo Pescheria to Muggia and visit the
Istro-Venetian fishing village. Take advantage to admire Trieste from
