Open seminar on

ICTP RESEARCH ON DIGITAL LECTURES: YOUR TALKS
DELIVERED TO A MILLION SCIENTISTS

by C. Fonda, M. Zennaro and E. Canessa

Venue: MB Room D, Thursday 15 March at 10:30 hrs

The Science Dissemination Unit of ICTP has developed a new technology
to archive and share scientific lectures and to multiply their
audiences at no cost for the activity.

The system is innovative: it is completely automated, non-intrusive,
low-cost and allows the recording of lectures with audio and video
without human intervention. Projected slides, or chalkboard notes, are
automatically grabbed and synchronized with the video, resulting in a
high quality learning experience for the remote audience. Most
important though, Lecturers are not disturbed by any special technical
constraints. The digital lectures are made accessible via Web or
through CD/DVD.

In this seminar, the potentiality of the system will be shown. An open
discussion on possible strategies to implement it fully at ICTP for
Workshops, Seminars and the Diploma Course will follow.

The system can be seen as a concrete example of helping to bridge the
knowledge divide in developing countries and across the north-south
divide.

Everyone is most welcome to attend!
