A R T  &  E X H I B I T I O N S
This website gives details of all museums in Trieste and the

Below is a brief list of some exhibitions going on locally.
New exhibition on Istro-Roumanian history, culture and traditions at  
Palazzo Costanzi (Piazza Piccola 2) 17th June-15th July.
Until 24th June at the Museo Postale e Telegrafico della Mitteleuropa  
(Palazzo delle Poste Italiane, piazza V. Veneto 1), you can see the  
exhibition "La navigazione postale in Italia", which traces the history  
of transporting mail by sea.  Open daily from 9:00-13:00 and Sundays  
from 10:00-12:00.  Closed 2 June.
New exhibition at the Museo Revoltella (via Diaz 27).  60 works by the  
artist Gillo Dorfles created between 1935 and the present day will be  
on display until 15 July.  You can visit this exhibition, as well as  
the permanent collections of the Museum from Mon-Sat from 9-18, Sunday  
10-18.  Closed Tues.
As well as the permanent collections on display at the Civico Museo  
Sartorio (Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII), all year there is also the  
"Histria" exhibition of restored works of art by Paolo Veneziano and  
Tiepolo.  Open Mon-Fri 10-17, Sat 10-13. Closed Sun and holidays.  More

T O U R S
Trieste on Foot
Every day, there are guided walking tours (in Italian and English) of  
Trieste, starting at 16:30.  It lasts 2 hours and costs 5 Euro  
(children under 12 go free).  Book your place at the Tourist Bureau  
(TURISMO FVG Trieste) in Piazza Unita). Tel. 040-3478312. On Saturday  
16th actors in medieval costumes(Antiche Contrade) will perform with  
stories and music while walking around the old cobbled streets of the  
medieval surroundings of the San Giusto Castle (Call 0409896112,  
Associazione Tredici Casade).
Trieste by Boat to Muggia
You can travel from the Molo Pescheria to Muggia and visit the  
Istro-Venetian fishing village. Take advantage to admire Trieste from

bus 20 from the Train Station all the way to the center of Muggia.)
Trieste by Bus
You can take a tour every Saturday at 14.00 in front of the Train  
Station in Piazza Liberta. The tour lasts 2 hours and takes you around  
the city's main monuments and sights. There is a 30 minutes stop at the  
San Giusto Castle. For more information call Consorzio Promotrieste,  
tel: 040305308. Ticket costs 5 Euros for adults and is free for  
children under 10.
Duino Castle

Duino castle is without doubt among one of the most attractive castles  
in Europe and is still the official residence of the Torre e Tasso  
royal family.  It was recently opened up to the public for the first  
time.  From its cliff top location it overlooks a small fishing village  
and is surrounded by extensive gardens.  Inside, you can see the  
furnishings, pictures, books and mementoes collected over centuries.
Opening times: 09:30 to 17:30.  Closed Tuesday.

You can reach Duino easily by the blue APT bus 51 (the airport bus), or  
the number 44 orange bus from Piazza Oberdan.  Once there you can also  
take in some of the breathtaking views from the Rilke cliff top  
pathway, and take a walk down to the pretty harbour.
The current exhibition (I sentieri della psiche nella scrittura)  
displays manuscripts by the German poet Rilke, with an analysis of his  
handwriting.  There will also be a collection of antique pens on loan  
from the Parker and Waterman Museum.  Open until 1 July 200.
GRADO
The nearby seaside resort of Grado is nice to visit, with its  
historical centre, basilica and roman remains.  You can read about the  
town (in English) on the site: http://www.gravo.com/estor.html.  If the  
weather isn't warm enough for the beach, Grado also has a great indoor  
spa pool (more information in Italian on the site:  
http://www.gradoit.it/home_turista.html).
If you don't have a car, the best way to get to Grado is by bus.  The  
APT number 21 bus goes direct to Grado leaving the bus station in  
Trieste at 7.50 on weekdays and Saturdays and 8.00 on Sundays (it  
reaches Grignano bus stop about 5-10 minutes later).  The return from  
Grado bus station is 14.15 Monday-Saturday and 18.50 on Sundays.

N A T U R E
Carsiana Botanical Garden
The local Carsiana botanical garden, which offers visitors a beautiful  
selection of the typical local fauna, to be found among the vegetation  
in Carso (karst) has opened to the public for the season.  Until 15  
October, the opening hours will be Tue-Fri 10-13, Sat, Sun and public  
holidays 10-13 and 15-19.  It's closed on Mondays.  Guided tours take  
place at 16:00 and 17:00 on both Saturday and Sunday.  This Sunday, the  
theme of the guided tours is "Il Sentiero delle piante velenose"  
(Poisonous plants).  Entrance is 3 euro (reduced price 2 euro).  You

On Sunday 17th , there will be a special day for children, with various  
activities and games, plant observation and gardening. In the  
afternoon, there will be guided tours for children at 4 p.m.
Hicking in Val Rosandra
The whole of the Rosandra Valley is walked along a grid of  
colour-marked footpaths, each marked by CAI (Italian Alpine Club),  
ranging from the very easy paths to others that require a certain  
ability.There are easily accessible caves for speleology and  
archaeology lovers.You can reach the Valley by taking bus 40 from the  
Central Train Station in Trieste and get off in Bagnoli della Rosandra.
The Grotta Gigante or Giant Cave
The cave is considered the largest tourist cave in the world. It is  
situated on the Triestine Karst (Carso), half an hour from the city  
center. An exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum,  
constructed by university researchers in order to calculate the  
slightest movements of the earth's crust. You can easily get there by  
bus 42 from the central Train Station in Trieste and get off at Borgo  
Grotta-Sgonico.Visiting hours from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Entrance ticket:  
Euro 8,50/person  or Euro 4,50/person for a group of 15.



MUSIC  and  ENTERTAINMENT.
International Operetta Festival (starting 26th June)

Muggia:  Saturday at 9.30 p.m at the Caffe teatro verdi, jazz music  
with the Adriana Vasquez Trio. There will also be stands offering  
various food specialities from various regions in Italy, live music and  
folkloristic danses in the open air.
Trieste:  Saturday 16th at 5.30 p.m at the Stazione Marittima, the  
Roumanian violinist from Timisoara will perform music by Paganini and  
Porombescu,
Trieste- Piazza Unita: Sunday at 11.30 a.m music and danse with a  
folkloristic group from Croatia

The International Fair of Trieste.
Opening on Friday 9th of June until 17th of June.
Daily from 16.00 to 24.00. Free Entry.
There are numerous stands to see ranging from crafts to furniture  
design, food specialities. Live music and entertainment. You can reach  
the fair by bus (number 19-20 or 21 from Piazza Oberdan), get off in  
Piazza Foraggi, take Viale Ippodromo and proceed by foot for about 200  
meters until you get to the main entrance.

Flea Market and Live Music in Sistiana.
Beach area "La Caravella",  every Friday from 18.00 to 23.00 stroll  
around the stands and spend a nice evening near the seaport,there are a  
variety of bars and discos in the open air.Daytime bus 51 to Sistiana  
town and bus 73 down to  Sistiana Bay.On Saturday there is a special  
night bus from Piazza Oberdan to Sistiana leaving at the following  
hours: 22.30-23.30-23.45 and returning from Sistiana at  
0.45-2.20-2.50-4.05. The bus is free but has no intermediate stops  
between Sistiana and Piazza Oberdan.

C H I L D R E N's  A C T I V I T I E S
L'Immaginario Scientifico
This science museum (located on the ground floor level of the Adriatico  
Hotel, entrance at the rear of the hotel, opposite the 36 bus stop) has  
exhibits which are particularly suitable for children.  It is open on  
Sunday from 10-20.
A children's laboratory will be held on Sunday from 15.45-16.45 for  
those aged 4-7 and from 15:30-17:00 for 8-11 year olds. This week the  
children will be working with soap and bubbles.  You can book by e-mail

Until 24 June, you can also see the exhibition "Zoom", an interactive  
journey through macro- and microcosms.
