SALAM +50 DAY

2007 marks not only the centenary of Imperial College London but also
the 50th anniversary of the late Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam's arrival
here.  To mark this event , Saturday July 7th, the final day of the
PASCOS conference (http://www.pascos07.org/ ), will be devoted to a
celebration of his life and works.  There will be a series of public
lectures by distinguished scientists and others who knew and worked
with Salam or interacted with him in some way.

This ``Salam+50'' day will be introduced by the Rector of Imperial
College, Sir Richard Sykes. The Physics Department Centenary Salam
Lecture will be delivered by Nobel Laureate, Professor Gerard 't Hooft.
  Other speakers include Dr Gordon Fraser, Salam biographer;  Professor
Faheem Hussain, former head of Abdus Salam ICTP’s Office of External
Activities;  Professor Tom Kibble FRS from Imperial and the Pakistani
High Commissioner, Dr Maleeha Lodhi.

Salam's daughter Dr Anza Rahman, his sons Ahmad Salam and Umar Salam,
and his grandson Saif Salam will share some reminiscences and will be
bringing along some Salam memorabilia. In addition, Marza Ahmad,
President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK, will present the Abdus
Salam Undergraduate Physics Prize.

The event will take place from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm in the Lecture
Theatre 1, Sir Alexander Fleming Building, South Kensington Campus.
Attendance is free and there will be refreshments and a lunch provided
by the Science and Technology Facilities Council.  However, to reserve
