"GOODBYE 2007 - NEW YEAR 2008": IN PIAZZA UNITA' ON 31 DEC AT 22:00 
WITH LIVE MUSIC AND FIREWORKS

WHAT TO SEE:
Ice Sculptures in Piazza della Borsa, Sat 22 and Sun 23 at 11:00 - 19:00

City Tour on horse carriages: meeting point Piazza Unità on Sat 22 Dec 
and Sun 23 Dec at 11:00 - 13:00 / 15:00 - 19:30

"Natale Sub" on the sea promenade in front of Piazza Unità on 26 Dec at 
11:00. It is a special Mass celebrated every year under water by a 
priest who will read his sermon in a diving bell! One can follow the 
whole event with monitors and loudspeakers.  Vin Brule' and Panettone 
offered at the end of the ceremony!

CHRISTMAS CONCERTS:
The Verdi Orchestra performing at the Santa Maria Maggiore Church on 
Sat 22, at 20:30. The church is situated near the Roman Theatre.

Christmas concert at the Chiesa Greco Ortodossa di San Nicolò della 
Trinità on Sun 23 on the occasion of the celebration of 200 years 
presence of the Greek community in Trieste. The Greek Orthodox Church 
is situated in Rive Tre Novembre (near the Tommaseo Cafè). Bus 10 or 8.

Christmas concert at the San Giusto Cathedral on Wed 26 Dec at 18:00

Gospels at the Lutheran Church on Sat 26, in Largo Panfili n.1 at 18:00

Chamber Music"Concerto di Santo Stefano" at the Sala Tripcovichon on 26 
Dec at 12:00. The theatre is situated close to the Train Station.

NEW YEAR'S CONCERT 1 JAN 2008 AT THE SALA TRIPCOVICH AT 18:00

Trieste's historical cafes:  The Tommaseo Cafè in Riva 3 Novembre and 
the San Marco Cafè in Via Battisti 13 are places where writers, 
intellectuals and artists still meet. Presentation of books, art 
exhibits and musical evenings are held there.

Typical Triestine food
"Da Pepi", via Cassa di Risparmio nr 3: a typical old-fashioned fast 
food bar with a Mitteleuropean atmosphere. You can have excellent ham 
sandwiches at the bar or enjoy the special house dish; a variety of 
cold cuts served with sauerkraut and freshly grated horseradish. Good 
selection of wines and beers. Recently reviewed by the New York Times 
as the best of its kind in the Region.

homemade dishes in the best "Mitteleuropean" tradition (sausages, 
sauerkrauts meatballs, keiserfleish and much more. Live music as well.

in Liberty style
"Pasticceria Pirona" in Largo Barriera 12, where James Joyce used to be 
a customer. Pirona won a prize for the best hot chocolate in Italy.

AGRITURISMO OR FARMHOUSE RESTAURANTS
Milic, Localita' Sgonico (Sagrado) in the Carso, offers excellent local 
wines and typical Carso specialties (mainly soups, grilled meats, home
