Weekend Trips

Two trips are being organized for ICTP visitors during the forthcoming 
weekends:

Saturday 28 April : Grotta Gigante

On Saturday 28 April 2007, there will be a trip to the Grotta Gigante.  
The tour will take place in the morning, departure by public transport 
at 9:00 from Piazza Oberdan, bus nr. 42 which stops right outside the 
Grotta.  Piazza Oberdan is the terminus of bus 36 downtown, so is 
easily reachable from ICTP.

This Giant Cave is the world's largest tourist cave with a depth of 125 
m and a volume sufficient to contain St. Peter's in the Vatican.

There will be a guide on the spot to escort the group around the cave. 
The cost will be 4,50 Euro, which is a reduced rate offered to ICTP, 
plus two bus tickets (if you have the monthly ticket, you can use 
that).
A strong pair of walking shoes is advised to take part in this trip.

Saturday 5 May : Special guided tour to Aquileia
On Saturday  5 May, we have booked a special guided tour by private bus 
  to AQUILEIA (about 45 km. from Trieste) with an English-speaking 
guide.  Aquileia is very old marshland settlement, with a Roman period 
of seven centuries starting from 181 B.C. It's one of the most 
interesting sites in this area, and there are old Roman mosaics in the 
basilica and Roman ruins spread out in a lovely landscape.
The discounted contribution for ICTP visitors  is euro 4/head, with an 
extra  euro 2.50/head  entrance for the optional visit of the crypt.
Meeting point: Grignano, near the bus stop of the 36 at 9:00,
Return : around lunchtime.
