take in some of the breathtaking views from the Rilke cliff top
pathway, and take a walk down to the pretty harbour.

Bike Ride
On Sunday 22 April, there will be the annual bike ride in honour of the
famous Triestine cyclist, Giordano Cottur, who died last year. The
route covers 24 km, from piazza Unita' to Miramare, and back through
Trieste to the new Lloyd Adriatico buildings in Campo Marzio and is
suitable for all age groups. Meeting point in piazza Unita' from 8:30,
with departure scheduled for 9:30, approximately. Mid-way through the

participants, and prizes will be awarded in piazza Unita' at the end,
with a lottery offering a couple of bikes among the prizes. The
enrollment fee will be donated to UNICEF.

Swimming
Trieste offers several possibilities for swimmers. More information, in
English, on all the local swimming facilities (including the pools also
in Altura, Monfalcone and nearby Slovenia) can be found on the
following site: http://triestenet.tripod.com/aquamarina.htm.
Remember to take a swimming cap with you, as it is obligatory in all
structures!
The nearby seaside resort of Grado is nice to visit, with its
historical centre, basilica and roman remains. You can read about the
town (in English) on the site: http://www.gravo.com/estor.html. If the
weather isn't warm enough for the beach, Grado also has a great indoor
spa pool (more information in Italian on the site:
http://www.gradoit.it/home_turista.html).
If you don't have a car, the best way to get to Grado is by bus. The
APT number 21 bus goes direct to Grado leaving the bus station in
Trieste at 7.50 on weekdays and Saturdays and 8.00 on Sundays (it
reaches Grignano bus stop about 5-10 minutes later). The return from
Grado bus station is 14.15 Monday-Saturday and 18.50 on Sundays.
On Sunday 22 April, at 11am, in the sea in front of the Lungomare
Nazario Sauro, there will be a demonstration of sea-rescue by the Red
Cross.

(bus 42 or 44 from piazza Oberdan stops right outside), you can visit
the lighthouse daily from 9-11 and 16-18. Free entrance.

The Synagogue
For the first time, guided tours are being given of Trieste's

Berlam brothers, who were the architects of the Faro della Vittoria
also designed the Synagogue. Tours take place three times per week on
Monday, Wednesday and Sunday, and can be booked by calling 040-6726736
and asking for Katia or Patrizia or by e-mail to katia at keytreviaggi.it.
Each tour lasts about 45 mins, and you can combine your trip with a
visit to the Wagner Jewish Museum. Tickets cost 3.50 euro (with
reductions for groups), or 7.50 euro for a combined Synagogue-Museum
tour.
