Free-time activities
On both Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th September, entrance will be free
to Miramare Castle, as well as the exhibition of Hapsburg timepieces
which is currently on display there. More information on the website:

A R T & E X H I B I T I O N S
At the Adriatico Guesthouse, lower level - Photography exhibit entitled
"Nocturnes" by Gerardo Fornataro. On display until 30 September.
Photograhy Festival - Triestèfotografia
The Festival is taking place in several locations around Trieste with
photography exhibitions by some of the most famous contemporary
photographers in the world. Leaflets available at the Info Point.
Exhibition to celebrate 100 years since the opening of the historic
Transalpina railway line is open until 31 December in the railway
museum (Museo Ferroviario - via Giulio Cesare, 1). Open Wednesday,
Saturday and Sunday from 9-13.
Exhibition called "Un Luogo in un Momento - Trieste in Frammenti
Visivi" (A Place in a Moment - Trieste in Visual Fragments). a group
exhibition by Gianni Spizo in collaboration with the "Scuola del Vedere
- Academy of Fine Arts Trieste" in Piazza Piccola 2. From 2 - 25
September, 10-13 and 17-20.
B I K E R I D E
Gran Fondo d'Europa
This weekend the 6th edition of this annual bicycle event will be
taking place in Trieste with it's base at the Villaggio Bike Expo' on
the site of the old Bianchi swimming pool on the waterfront "Riva
Gulli". On Friday 23rd at 20:30 there will be Trieste Bike Night, with
a night-time ride through the streets of Trieste. On Saturday, there
will by a cycling gymkhana dedicated to children aged between 4 and 15,
from 15:00-17:30. On Sunday, the main event will take place,
starting at 9:00 in Piazza Unita'. There are 3 routes: 170km, 120km or
42km. At 12 there will be a Pasta Party with live music, followed by
the prize giving at 16. More information on 040-3721918 and on the

C H I L D R E N'S A C T I V I T I E S
L'Immaginario Scientifico
This science museum (located on the ground floor level of the Adriatico
Hotel, entrance at the rear of the hotel, opposite the 36 bus stop) has
exhibits which are particularly suitable for children. They will be
open this Sunday from 10-20.
A children's laboratory will be held on Sunday from 15.30-16.30 for
those aged 4-7 (making telephones and megaphones) and from 15:30-16:30
for 8-11 year olds (making a blue bottle). You can book by e-mail at

F A I R S & M A R K E T S
Piazza Europa 2006
From Friday 22 to Monday 25 September, there will be the annual
European market around the Ponterosso canal area of Trieste, each day
from 9-23. There will be all sorts of goods on offer at around 180
stalls from all over Europe, including lots of gastronomic
specialities. On Sunday 24 th at 21 there will be a fireworks display.
M U S I C & D A N C I N G
Concert at Miramare Castle
Today, Friday 22 September, there will be a performance of music by
Debussy, Ravel amongst others by the String Quartet. The concert
starts at 20:30 in the Sala del Trono (throne room). Places are
limited, so you are advised to get there early. This is the last
concert of the season.
Encuentro de Tango
On Saturday 23 September, starting at 21:30 in the San Marco Caffe' in
via Battisti in Trieste there will be an evening dedicated to tango.
Entrance is free.
N A T U R E
Carsiana Botanical Garden
The Carsiana botanical garden, which offers visitors a beautiful
selection of the typical local fauna, to be found among the vegetation
in Carso (karst) is organizing two guided tours this Sunday 24
September at 16 and 17 entitled "Le Piante del Carso si preparano
all'inverno", to illustrate the local Carso in autumn and how the local
vegetation prepares for winter.

T O U R S
Trieste by Train
The "Rondo'" historical train which tours Trieste and the surrounding
hills on the old railway lines operates each weekend until 29 October.
Trains leave Campo Marzio station each Sunday at 9:45 and 15, and the
main Railway station at 11:53 and 17:10. The journey lasts about 1n
hour and twenty minutes. Tickets cost 8 Euro for a single, 12 Euro for
a return.
Trieste by Bus
Every Saturday a bus leaves for a tour of Trieste from in front of the
train station at 14.00. It takes in all of the main sights to see
downtown, and there is also a 30-minute stop at St. Giusto Castle,
where you can walk along the Castle walls or visit the Cathedral or
simply enjoy the spectacular views. Tickets may be bought in the Sala
Eurostar in the main railway station and cost 5.20 Euro, with children
under 10 travelling free.
