Free-time activities
A R T & E X H I B I T I O N S
Guided Tour today, Friday 2 June, at 18:00 of the "Kleine Berlin"
air-raid shelter tunnels in via Fabio Severo (opposite number 11),
together with the two permanent exhibitions "10 giugno 1944. Ore 9:12
di un sabato mattina" and "Cavita' naturali e artificiali della Grande
Guerra". The organizers warn that the temperature inside the tunnels
is 16 degrees and damp underfoot, so visitors are advised to dress
adequately and to take a torch with them.
New Exhibition at the Teatro Miela (piazza Duca degli Abruzzi, 3, on
the waterfront in Trieste town centre) entitled Do Not Cross, dedicated
to raising public awareness of the need to protect Europe's forests.
Open until 8 June. Free entrance.
New Exhibition in Palazzo Gopcevic (via Rossini, 4, alongside the Canal
di Ponterosso) entitled "Il Porto di Fiume" presents the history of the
former Italian, now Croatian port of Fiume. Open until 25 June 2006
daily from 9-19. Free entrance.
"Trieste Umida" is the title of the exhibition in the Speleovivarium in
via Guido Reni 2/C. A chance to see amphibians like frogs and
salamanders in a natural context, and examples of how delicate
ecosystems rich in species of animals and vegetables have managed to
develop unexpectedly in urban areas. Open Tues and Thur from 18-19:30
and Sunday from 10-12 until 18 June.
Exhibition in the ballroom of the Revoltella Museum (via Diaz, 27)
entitled "Preview - Andy Warhol's Timeboxes". Open until 18 July 2006
as an introduction to the main exhibition which will open on 21 July in
the renovated fish market (ex-pescheria) in Trieste. E-mail

display here are part of the "Campbell's soup" group, dedicated to
industry in Pittsburgh, Warhol's home town, which was a recurring
source of inspiration in his work.
C H I L D R E N's A C T I V I T I E S
L'Immaginario Scientifico
This science museum (located on the ground floor level of the Adriatico
Hotel, entrance at the rear of the hotel, opposite the 36 bus stop) has
exhibits which are particularly suitable for children.
A children's laboratory will be held on Sunday from 15.45-16.45 for
those aged 4-7 (worker bees) and from 15:30-17:00 for 8-11 year olds
(lighthouses). You can book by e-mail at

F A I R S & M A R K E T S
Fiera di Trieste
From 3-11 June 2006, there will be the annual Fiera Campionaria in
Trieste (piazzale de Gasperi, 1, bus 18). Free Entrance to see the
many stands from Italy and abroad with all sorts of merchandise and
products on display, and stands offering food and drink. Open weekdays
from 17-23 and 16-24 at the weekend.
L'Isola dei Tesori
On Saturday 3 June in piazza della Repubblica in Grado, starting at 18,
there will be the traditional summer flea market, to inaugurate the
summer season at the local seaside resort.
Flea Market
On Sunday 4 June, from 9-19:30, a flea market will be held inside the
Giulia shopping centre (via Giulia, bus number 6 stops right outside).
F O O D & D R I N K
Aziende Aperte 2006
Local food and wine producers of the Bassa friulana area of the
Friuli-Venezia Giulia region are holding their annual eno-gastronomic
touristic celebration this weekend. There will be guided cellar tours,
vineyard tours and food and wine-tastings. Get more information from

M U S I C
Choral concert
Today, Friday 2 June, at 20:30 in the Tempio di San Spiridione (via San
Spiridione, near Ponterosso), there will be a concert by the San Biagio
Choir, who will perform Gregorian, medieval and renaissance music.
Piano recital
On Saturday 3 June, at 17, in the Club Rovis in via Ginnastica 47,
there will be a concert by the pianist Bruno Sabastian Sebbastianutto
and the violinist Christian Sebastianutto.
N A T U R E
Carsiana Botanical Garden
The Carsiana botanical garden, which offers visitors a beautiful
selection of the typical local fauna, to be found among the vegetation
in Carso (karst) is now open to the public for the summer season. You
can find all the information you need on their very helpful website
(including the bus route to take you there, opening times etc.) which
is also in English: http://www.triesteincontra.it/carsiana/eng/. This
Sunday, 4 June, entrance to the Garden (and the guided tours at 10, 16
and 17) will be free for those who have also visited the Mostra dei
vini (wine fair) in Sgonico. Call 040-229573 for more information

Giornata Nazionale dello Sport
On Sunday 4 June 2006, from 9:30-13, there will be demonstrations by 19
different sports federations in piazza Unita', organized by the local
Coni (Olympic Committee). Sports on display include: handball,
athletics, table tennis, cycling, sailing, archery, basket ball,
baseball, fishing, ice hockey, boxing, taekwondo, volley ball, rowing,
swimming, weightlifting, football, motorcycling and fencing.

Trieste by Train
The "Rondo'" historical train which tours Trieste and the surrounding
hills on the old railway lines started its summer season last weekend.
Trains leave Campo Marzio station each Sunday at 9:45 and 15, and the
main Railway station at 11:53 and 17:10. The journey lasts about 1n
hour and twenty minutes. Tickets cost 8 Euro for a single, 12 Euro for
a return.
Trieste by Bus
Every Saturday a bus leaves for a tour of Trieste from in front of the
train station at 14.00. It takes in all of the main sights to see
downtown, and there is also a 30-minute stop at St. Giusto Castle,
where you can walk along the Castle walls or visit the Cathedral or
simply enjoy the spectacular views. Tickets may be bought in the Sala
Eurostar in the main railway station and cost 5.20 Euro, with children
under 10 travelling free.
Trieste by Boat
There are now 3 boat trips operating locally for the summer season:
Trieste - Muggia, Trieste - Barcola - Grignano (see the following web

The Delfino Verde boat has also just starting operating the route
