Free-time activities
A R T & E X H I B I T I O N S
This website gives details of all museums in Trieste and the

Below is a brief list of some exhibitions going on locally.
At the Sala d'Arte Palazzo Costanzi, piazza Piccola 2 from Wednesday
20/12 until 7/1/2007 there is an exhibition of 50 nativity scenes
(Presepi) by local artists. Open daily from 10-13 and from 17-20.
At the Eyeshot Gallery (via Lazzaretto Vecchio 17/d) at 11:00, there
will be the inauguration of the exhibition "Omaggio a Sigmund Freud",
accompanied by a performance by the flautist Stefano Casaccia. Open
until 20/1/2007 from Mon-Sat from 17-19:30.
At the Sala Comunale in Piazza Unita', photography exhibition by Alice
Zen, open until 20/12/2006, 15 original works entitled " Alice's
mirrors". Digital works on mirrors, worthwhile seeing the works and
meeting the artist. Daily from 10-13 and 17-20:30 .
An exhibition of 60 works by Piero Marussig (Trieste 1879-Pavia 1937)
is open daily at the Museo Revoltella (via Diaz 27) until 29 January
2007 from 9:00-18:00. (Sunday from 10:00-18:00, closed Tuesday). The
paintings are divided into four sections: "mitteleuropa" period, 1905
Paris, 20th century Milan and Italy, still life in the '30s. More

Exhibition at the ex-Pescheria (downtown seafront) to celebrate "The
rebirth of the Parliament: from liberation to the constitution" Open
until 28/2/2007 daily from 9.30-13 and 14-18. Free entrance, and free
catalogue for all visitors.
Exhibition to celebrate 100 years since the opening of the historic
Transalpina railway line is open until 31 December in the railway
museum (Museo Ferroviario - via Giulio Cesare, 1). Open Wednesday,
Saturday and Sunday from 9-13.
Exhibition entitled "Gli orologi di Miramare" open 9:00-18:00 every day
in Miramare Castle until 31/1/2007, with a collection of Hapsburg
timepieces on display in the various rooms of the Castle.
A photographic exhibition entitled Trieste e le Navi Bianche is taking
place at the Civico Museo del Mare in via di Campo Marzio, 5. From
Tuesday to Sunday until 7 January 2007 from 8.30-13.30, you can see a
collection of photographs on the history of cruise ships in the port of
Trieste.
C H I L D R E N's A C T I V I T I E S
Panna e Cioccolato
At the Caffe Excelsior in via Muratti at 16:30 on Saturday 16 and at
11:00 on Sunday 17 December, there will be clowns, magicians and puppet
shows, with a free cup of hot chocolate for all children. Free
entrance.
Ice-Skating
A temporary ice-rink has been set up in Piazza Verdi, in front of the
theatre, which will be open every day from 10-23 until 7 January 2007.
Take your own skates, or hire them there.
F A I R S & M A R K E T S
Christmas Market
Until 22 December in and around Piazza Sant'Antonio, there is the
annual Christmas market organized by the Organ Donors Association.
Kiosks with food, drinks, gift ideas, art and handcrafts. There is
also a live nativity scene with real animals. Part of the proceeds
from the market are donated each year to buying medical equipment for
those affected by illnesses requiring transplants.
Suoni e Sapori
At 17:45 on Saturday16 December in Piazza della Borsa there will be
5000 "frittole" and vin brulé handed out for free. The Santa Barbara
band will be performing.
Flea Market
On Sunday 17 December 2006, there will be the monthly flea market in
Trieste town centre. All sorts of antiques and bric a brac will be on
sale all day in the roads of the old town behind Piazza della Borsa
near the Roman Theatre (Teatro Romano).
M U S E U M S
Museo del Presepio in via dei Giardini, 16 (Servola) is open until 15
January 2007 throughout the festive season, with its exhibition of
nativity scenes, which are a great Italian tradition. You can visit
Monday-Saturday 15-18 and on Sundays and holidays from 10-12 and 15-18.

Museo dell'Antartide - Museum of the Arctic
This interesting museum is located in San Giovanni park. You can see
reconstructions of Amundsen's tent and Shackleton's ship, as well as
all sorts of interactive exhibits documenting various expeditions to
the Antarctic. Open Mon, Wed and Thur from 9-13 and Fri, Sat and Sun
from 9-13 and 16-19, closed Tuesday, in via Weiss 21. Tickets cost 5
Euro, 4 Euro for concessions and 3 Euro for school groups. More

M U S I C
Caffe' San Marco
On Saturday 16 December at 18, in the Caffe San Marco there will be a
concert by the Trieste Weber String Quartet.
Museo Revoltella Auditorium
On Sunday 17 December at 11.00 in the Auditorium of the Museo
Revoltella (via Diaz, 27), there will be a concert for baritone,
clarinet and cello entitled "El critoleo del corpo fracassao". Entrance
costs 5 Euro, and entitles the ticket-holder to a reduced rate visit to
the museum and the Marussig exhibition.
Concert at Conservatorio Tartini
On Friday 15 December at 20:30, there will be a concert by students of
the Tartini Conservatory (via Ghega, 12). On Wednesday 20 December, at
20:30, they will give their Christmas concert. Both events are open to
the public.
Church concerts
Saturday 16 December - 18 in the Parrocchia (church hall) of S.
Caterina da Siena (via dei Mille, 18) there will be an advent concert
by the organist Chiara Bieker.
Sunday 17 December - 16:30 in the Chiesa Immacolata Cuore di Maria (via
S. Anastasio 9/1) concert by the "Cappella Tergestina" Choir.
S P O R T
3 Corsa di Natale - 3rd Christmas Race
A 6km road race will start in Piazza Unita' at 10.30 on Sunday 17
December. Meeting time is at 9:00. The prize ceremony will be held at
11:30. More information on 040-41399 from the Associazione La
Bavisela, via Udine 35.
T O U R S
Trieste by Bus
Every Saturday a bus leaves for a tour of Trieste from in front of the
train station at 14.00. It takes in all of the main sights to see
downtown, and there is also a 30-minute stop at St. Giusto Castle,
where you can walk along the Castle walls or visit the Cathedral or
simply enjoy the spectacular views. Tickets may be bought in the Sala
Eurostar in the main railway station and cost 5.20 Euro, with children
under 10 travelling free.
Trieste by Boat
You can travel from the Molo Pescheria to Muggia and visit the
Istro-Venetian fishing village. Take advantage to admire Trieste from

Lots of festive activities are taking place in Muggia in the run-up to
Christmas including a market being held in Piazza della Repubblica and
surrounding streets.
