Free-time activities

S A N  G I U S T O  C A S T L E
The Castle of Trieste is situated on the St. Giusto hill in the heart  
of the city and offers splendid views of the city.  The Armour Museum  
has just re-opened after undergoing restoration.  You can also visit  
the gothic St. George's Chapel, the Caprin reception hall which is  
decorated with original antique furniture and works of art purchased by  
the city from the heirs of Giuseppe Caprin.  Open every day from 9-19;  
ticket costs 2 euros.

A R T  &  E X H I B I T I O N S
Exhibition entitled "Gli orologi di Miramare" open 9:00-18:00 every day  
in Miramare Castle until 31/1/2007, with a collection of Hapsburg  
timepieces on display in the various rooms of the Castle.
Exhibition entitled "Turqeries: Immagini dal mondo Ottomano nell'Europa  
del XVII" in Palazzo Gopcevic (via Rossini 4, near the Ponterosso  
canal).  This is the Triestine contribution to the big exhibition  
dedicated to the Turks which is taking place throughout the region,  
with exhibitions ongoing in Palmanova, Udine, Pordenone, Grado and  
Villa Manin.  Open until 3 September every day from 9-19, free  
entrance.
At the Museo Revoltella in via Diaz, 27, there is an ongoing exhibition  
entitled "Lessico familiare", dedicated to the life and times of the  
local writer and journalist, Silvio Benco (1874-1949).  Open until 24  
September.
Exhibition entitled "Il Friuli terremotato", commemorating the  
earthquake which devastated large parts of Friuli in 1976, can be seen  
each day from 9-13 at the Museo Postale e Telegrafico della  
Mitteleuropa in piazza Vittorio Veneto until 24 September.
Two important exhibitions at Villa Manin di Passariano.  One "Infinite  
Painting" is ongoing until 24 September from Tues-Sun 10-18, the other  
is called "Sculture nel Parco".  More information on the website (also

C H I L D R E N's  A C T I V I T I E S
L'Immaginario Scientifico
This science museum (located on the ground floor level of the Adriatico  
Hotel, entrance at the rear of the hotel, opposite the 36 bus stop) has  
exhibits which are particularly suitable for children.
A children's laboratory will be held on Sunday from 15.45-16.45 for  
those aged 4-7 (making blowpipes) and from 15:30-17:00 for 8-11 year  
olds (making mini rifles).  You can book by e-mail at

Revoltella Museum
Every Saturday at the Revoltella Museum in via Diaz in Trieste, there  
is a children's laboratory organized from 16:00-18:00.  See the web

Please note also that entrance is free to the museum every Saturday  
until 27 August from 9:30-13:30 and 16-23.

F A I R S  &  M A R K E T S
Craft Market
On Sunday 13 August 2006, there will be an arts and hobby market in the  
roads of the old town behind Piazza della Borsa near the Roman Theatre  
(Teatro Romano) from 8-18.
Flea Market
Each Friday evening for the whole of the summer season, from 18-23 in  
the Caravella area of Sistiana bay there is a weekly antiques and bric  
a brac market.

F O O D  &  D R I N K
SAGRE
The summer months see a proliferation of local open-air Sagre-Country  
village festivals, which are outdoor festivals organized annually by  
lots of local village communities.  There are kiosks where you can buy  
typical local food and drink as well as live music and dancing.
This weekend, until 16 August, near the pinewoods in Barcola, there  
will be the annual Sardon Day sagra.  Entrance is free, and you can buy  
typical local fish dishes and drink from the kiosks.  Each evening at  
19:30 there will be a show (Friday: magic, Saturday: karaoke, Sunday:  
cabaret).  At 22:30 on 15 August, there will be a fireworks display.

M U S I C & D A N C I N G
Concert at Miramare Castle
Today, Friday 11 August, the summer concert season in Miramare Castle  
continues.  This evening's concert is a piano recital with music by  
Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Schubert and Debussy.  The concert starts at  
20:30 in the Sala del Trono (throne room).  Places are limited, so you  
are advised to get there early.

Concert in Piazza Hortis
On Sunday 13 August at 21:30 in Piazza Hortis in Trieste there will be  
a performance by the Orkestra Zbylenka.  The four musicians present an  
'ethnic parody', changing costumes and musical styles in continuation,  
to interpret different groups.  Free entrance.

Concert in Piazza Verdi
On Monday 14 August in Piazza Verdi, in front of the theatre, there  
will be a concert by Manomanouche who will perform a fusion of 1930s  
swing with gypsy folk music.  Free entrance

Concerts in Piazza Unita' - Serestate 2006
Each evening in Piazza Unita' there is a music concert.  The original  
schedule continues to be disrupted by the bad weather, but on Friday at  
21:30 there should be a concert of blues music.  Depending on the  
weather, on Saturday at 21:30, there should be a tribute concert to the  
famous Italian singer, Lucio Battisti.  Entrance is free to all  
concerts.

Saturday Night Shuttle Bus Service to Sistiana Bay
There is a free shuttle bus called "Overnight" each Saturday until 12  
August for people to go dancing at the Open Air Discos of Sistiana at  
the seaside.  Departures from Piazza Oberdan in Trieste at 22:30,  
24:00, 1:30. Returns from Sistiana at 23:15, 0:45, 2:15, 3:45. At the  
return point there will be a stand that distributes free gadgets,  
infomaterial, water and fruit.

T O U R S
Trieste by Train
The "Rondo'" historical train which tours Trieste and the surrounding  
hills on the old railway lines started its summer season last weekend.   
Trains leave Campo Marzio station each Sunday at 9:45 and 15, and the  
main Railway station at 11:53 and 17:10.  The journey lasts about 1n  
hour and twenty minutes.  Tickets cost 8 Euro for a single, 12 Euro for  
a return.
Trieste by Bus
Every Saturday a bus leaves for a tour of Trieste from in front of the  
train station at 14.00.  It takes in all of the main sights to see  
downtown, and there is also a 30-minute stop at St. Giusto Castle,  
where you can walk along the Castle walls or visit the Cathedral or  
simply enjoy the spectacular views.  Tickets may be bought in the Sala  
Eurostar in the main railway station and cost 5.20 Euro, with children  
under 10 travelling free.
Trieste by Boat
There are now several boat trips operating locally for the summer  
season: Trieste-Muggia, Trieste-Barcola-Grignano (see the following web  
site for timetables and prices:

Please note that all these boat trips within the Province of Trieste  
are free of charge to those who hold an annual or monthly "rete"  
transport ticket.  We have been informed however that the  
Trieste-Muggia route is now no longer free for rete holders!
The Delfino Verde boat has also started operating the route Trieste -  
Grado.  More details on the site: www.delfinoverde.it.
