On the occasion of the birthday of P.A.M. Dirac
we take pleasure in announcing that
the 2006 Dirac Medal and Prize
will be awarded to

Institute for Theoretical Physics, University of Innsbruck

Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information
Austrian Academy of Sciences
For innovative and prolific work in atomic physics, including seminal
work proposing methods to use trapped ions for quantum computing and
describing how to realize the Bose-Hubbard model and associated phase
transitions in ultracold gases.
