Saturday 5 August: guided Tour through the outskirts of Trieste

Dear All,

On Saturday 5 August there will be a guided tour to the interesting 
outskirts of Trieste.

We will meet  downtown at 9:15  at the Stazione Marittima - facing the 
sea, it is to the left of Piazza Unita', on the waterfront.
The bus departs at 9:30 from the square in front of the Stazione 
Marittima.

The ride will take you from downtown Trieste to the hilly karst 
-(carso) area and its first stop is at the Botanical Gardens  "La 
Carsiana"   (www.carsiana.it), where you can take a look around the 
6000 sq.mt. of parkland, full of typical karst floral species.

Afterwards, the bus heads towards Duino, a picturesque fishing village 
along the coast  where you can visit the unique Castle of the Torre e 
Tasso family (www.castellodiduino.it) and take a walk along the cliff 
path with spectacular views, which is named after the poet Rainer Maria 
Rilke who wrote his "Elegie duinesi" there.

The return to the Stazione Marittima is scheduled for 13:30.

The bus is free of charge, and places are assigned on a 
first-come-first-served basis.  You will have to pay for the optional 
entrance tickets to the Botanical Garden (3 euro, for groups 2 euro) 
and the Castle (ca. 5 euro).
